I Passed the MD-102 Exam
After focused lab work on Mobile Device Management, I successfully passed the Microsoft MD-102 exam. Here's what worked in my study approach and what I'm tackling next.
The Achievement
I'm pleased to say I finally passed my MD-102 exam! As I mentioned in previous posts, I struggled a bit with the Mobile Device sections, so I really focused my recent lab work there.
Study approach
For anyone wondering about resources, my main study tool was a custom lab environment. I created a separate Microsoft 365 tenant, started an E5 trial, and set up a Windows Server VM with AD. Getting hands-on with AD Connect and the Intune Connector made a huge difference.
Resources
- Custom lab environment: Microsoft 365 tenant with E5 trial and on-premise Active Directory Server
- Microsoft Learn: Official documentation and learning paths
- Free practice tests: Microsoft's official exam practice questions
- MeasureUp: Additional practice exams (questions felt somewhat outdated, averaging ~70% going into the exam)
Key takeaways
- Hands-on lab work is essential, especially for Mobile Device Management sections
- AD Connect and Intune Connector understanding significantly impacted my confidence
- Official Microsoft Learn resources aligned best with the actual exam
- Practice tests helped identify weak areas but context and real environment experience made the difference
What's next
My next step is the MS-102, so it's time to start looking into Microsoft Purview, data retention, and sensitivity labels. I'll be building out lab scenarios around data governance and compliance in my tenant environment.
